Angel City FC turned a goalless first half into a convincing 2-0 victory over Bay FC at BMO Stadium on Saturday, October 24, with Gisele Thompson breaking the deadlock in the 49th minute and substitute Riley Tiernan securing the points in the 83rd.
The hosts backed up their second-half goals with commanding numbers across the pitch: 65 percent possession, 16 shots and eight attempts on target. Bay managed five shots without testing Angel City’s goalkeeper, leaving the visitors unable to turn their resistance before the interval into a result.
Thompson breaks the deadlock after halftime
Neither side found a breakthrough in the opening 45 minutes. Savy King’s 13th-minute yellow card was the only booking before halftime, and the teams headed into the dressing rooms level at 0-0.
That balance changed four minutes after the restart when Thompson put Angel City ahead in the 49th minute. After a first half without a goal, the hosts finally had the advantage that their overall attacking output would justify.
Carina Lageyre was booked in the 52nd minute, while Bay’s Maddie Moreau received a yellow card in the 67th. With only one goal separating the sides, Bay remained within reach of an equalizer, but their lack of an attempt on target across the evening underlined their attacking difficulties.
Tiernan adds the finishing touch
Tiernan supplied the decisive cushion in the 83rd minute, coming off the bench to make it 2-0 and leave Bay with little time to respond.
Angel City’s superiority extended beyond possession and shots. The hosts also earned eight corners to Bay’s three, reinforcing the picture of a fixture played largely on their terms. A clean sheet completed a strong night’s work as Angel City claimed all three points.
