Paris Saint-Germain delivered a ruthless attacking display at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, beating Manchester City 4–2 in the UEFA Champions League league phase. Three unanswered first-half goals put the visitors firmly in command, and even Erling Haaland’s second-half double, in the 53rd and 75th minutes, could not undo the damage.

City finished with more possession, more attempts and considerably more corners. PSG left with the three points, having made their attacking opportunities count in a six-goal European fixture.
PSG seize control before the break
The decisive early burst came within two minutes. Désiré Doué opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Ousmane Dembélé headed home in the 15th, leaving City facing a two-goal deficit with barely a quarter of an hour played.

There was worse to come for the hosts. Vitinha added PSG’s third in the 32nd minute, establishing a commanding 3–0 advantage that remained intact at half-time. Three different scorers had put the visitors within reach of a major away victory, while City needed a dramatic turnaround.
Haaland responds, but Akliouche checks the comeback
Haaland gave City a foothold with a header in the 53rd minute, reducing the deficit to 3–1 and offering a route back into the contest.

But PSG supplied the crucial response. Maghnes Akliouche struck in the 62nd minute to restore the three-goal cushion, just nine minutes after City had pulled one back. That fourth goal sharply increased the scale of the hosts’ task.
Haaland found the net again in the 75th minute to make it 4–2, completing his brace and keeping City’s hopes alive for the closing stages. There was no further breakthrough, however, and PSG preserved their two-goal margin through the final whistle.
The numbers underline PSG’s cutting edge
City registered 27 attempts to PSG’s 15, held 53.9% possession and won the corner count 11–2. Yet the visitors produced more shots on target, edging that measure 10–9, and converted their attacking output into four goals.
That contrast told the story of the evening: City generated volume, but PSG delivered the more damaging blows. The hosts won the second half 2–1, yet their recovery never overcame the first-half deficit.
For PSG, this was a statement away victory built on a devastating opening period and a timely second-half response. For City, the attacking numbers offered little consolation after conceding four on their own pitch.
