New England Revolution earned a resilient 2-1 Major League Soccer victory over Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field on Sunday, September 13, surviving a sustained home response after taking command either side of half-time.
Dor Turgeman opened the scoring in the 39th minute, giving the Revolution a crucial advantage before the interval. New England then doubled its lead two minutes into the second half when Peyton Miller found the net in the 47th minute.
Chicago had controlled much of the ball and created a steady stream of attacking moments, finishing with 60.5 percent possession, 22 shots and 13 corners. But the Fire were unable to translate that territorial edge into enough goals against a Revolution side that made its limited opportunities count.
Maren Haile-Selassie, introduced from the bench, gave Chicago renewed belief with his 62nd-minute goal. The Fire pushed for an equaliser over the remaining half-hour and registered seven shots on target, but New England protected its one-goal lead through to the final whistle.
The match also carried an edge, with Chicago’s Noah Allen booked in the 43rd minute, while New England’s Matt Polster and goalscorer Miller saw yellow cards in the second half. Chicago midfielder Sergio Oregel was cautioned in the 84th minute as the hosts searched for a late breakthrough.
For New England, the result underlined the value of clinical finishing: the visitors scored twice from just four total shots and two efforts on target. Chicago will rue its inability to turn a dominant statistical performance into points.
