Houston Dash produced a late twist at Centreville Bank Stadium, with Messiah Bright’s 85th-minute header earning a 2-1 National Women’s Soccer League victory over Boston Legacy FC on Sunday.
The Dash took a narrow lead into half-time after Danielle Colaprico struck in the 44th minute. Houston had absorbed plenty of Boston pressure, but Colaprico’s goal gave the visitors the decisive edge heading into the interval.
Boston responded strongly after the restart and found a deserved equaliser in the 59th minute through Aïssata Traoré. The midfielder, who had been booked in the 24th minute, brought Legacy level as the home side continued to test Houston’s resistance.
Legacy created the greater volume of chances, finishing with 22 shots and 11 efforts on target, while holding a near-even 49.8 percent of possession. Houston, however, were more clinical when the fixture entered its closing stages.
Bright delivered the defining moment five minutes from time, powering home a header in the 85th minute to restore the Dash’s lead. Boston pressed for another response through six minutes of stoppage time, but Houston protected their advantage to see out a valuable road result.
The victory lifts Houston Dash’s record to 8-5-12, while Boston Legacy FC move to 7-5-13. Boston are back in action against Seattle Reign FC on Friday, while Houston travel to face Portland Thorns FC on Saturday.
