New England Revolution produced a ruthless stoppage-time finish to claim a 4-2 Major League Soccer victory over Orlando City SC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night.
Carles Gil and Peyton Miller each scored twice for the Revolution, who led at the interval before Orlando twice threatened to turn the fixture into a tense late contest. Instead, New England found another gear in added time, with Miller restoring the two-goal cushion in the 90+3rd minute before Gil sealed the points three minutes later.
Gil gave the home side a deserved early advantage in the 19th minute, putting New England 1-0 ahead after a first half in which they established control. The Revolution carried that lead into the break and continued to apply pressure after the restart.
Miller doubled the advantage in the 59th minute, but Orlando responded quickly through Iván Angulo three minutes later. Angulo’s 62nd-minute goal gave the visitors a route back into the match and ensured New England could not simply manage its lead through the closing stages.
Orlando pushed harder as the clock ticked down and drew within one goal when Martín Ojeda converted a penalty in the 88th minute. At 2-3, the visitors had suddenly created a frantic finale.
But the Revolution answered emphatically. Miller struck his second goal in the 90+3rd minute to halt Orlando’s momentum, and Gil completed his own brace in the 90+6th minute to put an exclamation point on an absorbing six-goal match.
New England’s edge was reflected in the underlying numbers. The Revolution held 51.2 percent possession, outshot Orlando 17-11, put nine efforts on target to the visitors’ five, and won 10 corners compared with Orlando’s three. Gil’s composure and Miller’s late decisiveness turned that territorial advantage into a valuable home win.
The result moves New England’s record to 14-4-8, while Orlando fall to 10-4-12. The Revolution next host Real Salt Lake on September 26, while Orlando return home to face Philadelphia Union on the same day.
