St. Louis CITY SC 4-2 Minnesota United FC
St. Louis CITY SC produced a ruthless response to an early setback on Saturday night, sweeping past Minnesota United FC 4-2 at Energizer Park behind a Rafael Navarro brace.
Minnesota made the sharper start and struck in the fifth minute through Tomás Chancalay, but St. Louis quickly seized control of the MLS fixture. Daniel Edelman levelled in the 18th minute before Carlo Holse turned the match around four minutes later, scoring in the 22nd minute to put the hosts in front.
St. Louis continued to dictate the tempo and possession, finishing with 64.4 percent of the ball and eight shots on target from 14 attempts. Navarro gave the home side a deserved two-goal cushion in the 38th minute, sending CITY SC into the interval with a 3-1 advantage.
The hosts did not allow Minnesota a route back after the restart. Navarro converted from the penalty spot in the 57th minute to complete his double and make it 4-1, capping an authoritative attacking display from St. Louis.
Minnesota did find a response when Kelvin Yeboah scored a penalty in the 61st minute, but the visitors could not build sustained pressure despite registering 10 shots. Their difficult evening became tougher in the 80th minute, when Kyle Duncan was shown a red card after having been booked earlier in the second half.
St. Louis saw out the closing stages comfortably to secure a convincing home win. The result moves their overall record to 11-8-6, while Minnesota fall to 7-8-10.
