Denver Summit FC produced a ruthless second-half display to sweep aside Gotham FC 3-0 on Sunday at Centennial Stadium, turning a tight NWSL contest into an emphatic home victory.
After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Denver found the breakthrough five minutes after the restart. Yuzuki Yamamoto struck in the 50th minute to give the hosts the lead and shift the momentum decisively in their favour.
Gotham had more of the ball, finishing with 54% possession, and matched Denver with four shots on target. But Denver were sharper in the key moments, making their 12 attempts and four efforts on target count where it mattered most.
The Summit protected their advantage before landing a decisive late double. Olivia Thomas made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute, providing the breathing room Denver had worked for. Yazmeen Ryan then completed the result in the 88th minute, putting the seal on a commanding final stretch for the home side.
Denver finished with three assists across their three goals and created nine shot assists, underlining the collective quality behind a clinical performance. Gotham, despite a solid share of possession and nine total shots, could not find a way through as Denver recorded a clean-sheet win.
The result moves Denver Summit FC’s record to 8-6-8, while Gotham FC fall to 13-6-4. Denver return to action on Friday, September 11, when Angel City FC visit, while Gotham travel to face Racing Louisville FC later that day.
