Jacob Ramsey struck two minutes from time to earn Newcastle United a hard-fought 2-2 Premier League draw with AFC Bournemouth at St. James’ Park.

In a lively early-season fixture played in front of 52,643 supporters, Bournemouth twice put themselves ahead and carried a real attacking threat despite seeing less of the ball. Newcastle, who finished with 57.3% possession, found a late response through substitute Ramsey to ensure the points were shared.

Bournemouth make the sharper start

The visitors landed the first blow in the ninth minute when Marcus Tavernier scored, rewarding Bournemouth’s positive opening. The Cherries remained a danger in transition and ultimately registered 17 shots, with five on target, compared with Newcastle’s eight attempts and two on target.

Bournemouth extended their advantage in the 35th minute when Malick Thiaw turned the ball into his own net. The own goal left Newcastle with a major task, but their response was immediate. Harvey Barnes scored in the 37th minute to bring the hosts back into the contest before half-time, with Bournemouth taking a 2-1 lead into the interval.

Ramsey delivers late equaliser

The second half became increasingly tense, with Newcastle pressing for a route back while Bournemouth looked to protect their advantage and strike again on the counter. Yoane Wissa was booked for Newcastle in the 57th minute, while Justin Kluivert and Adrien Truffert went into the book for Bournemouth as the contest grew more combative.

With Bournemouth closing in on a valuable away win, Jacob Ramsey scored in the 88th minute to level the match at 2-2. The late goal rewarded Newcastle’s persistence and denied the visitors a first league victory of the campaign.

The draw leaves Newcastle with a 1-2-0 league record, while Bournemouth move to 0-2-1. Newcastle return to action at home to Leeds United on September 14, while Bournemouth host Brentford on September 12.
