Dominic Calvert-Lewin came to Leeds United’s rescue with an 79th-minute equaliser as the Whites earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Brentford at Elland Road.
Brentford had looked set to leave Yorkshire with all three points after Kevin Schade fired them ahead with a volley in the 41st minute. The visitors carried the greater attacking threat for long periods, finishing with 53.2% possession, 22 shots and five efforts on target.
Leeds, backed by a crowd of 35,974, remained in the contest despite being behind at the interval. Their response after the break was increasingly determined, and Calvert-Lewin delivered the decisive moment for the home side when he found the net in the 79th minute.
The equaliser shifted the momentum late on, although Brentford continued to pose problems from attacking situations and won six corners to Leeds’ five. Leeds produced 12 shots overall but managed only two on target, underlining the value of their forward’s clinical late contribution.
There was a feisty edge to the fixture, with Brentford’s Kristoffer Ajer, Vitaly Janelt and Nathan Collins all booked, while Jaidon Anthony also went into the referee’s notebook for the visitors.
