Houston Dynamo FC claimed a gritty 1-0 MLS victory over LA Galaxy at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday night, with Guilherme Augusto’s 21st-minute penalty proving the difference.

Houston made their early territorial control count when Augusto stepped up from the spot in the 21st minute and calmly converted the match’s only goal. It was the decisive moment in a contest that Dynamo largely controlled, finishing with 61.4 percent possession and nine attempts.

The hosts took a 1-0 lead into the interval and continued to manage the match effectively after the restart. LA Galaxy matched Houston’s nine shots but could not turn their efforts into a breakthrough, failing to register a shot on target across the 90 minutes.

Discipline became an increasing factor in the second half. Houston’s Lawrence Ennali was booked in the 56th minute before LA Galaxy substitute Carlos Garcés was shown a red card two minutes later, leaving the visitors to chase an equaliser with 10 men.

That dismissal did not prevent Galaxy from pushing for a late response, but Houston stayed compact and protected their narrow advantage through a lengthy period of stoppage time. Héctor Herrera had been cautioned in first-half added time, while the final moments saw further flashpoints: Hirving Lozano received a yellow card for LA in the 90th minute, and Houston substitute Ibrahim Aliyu was booked in the 90th minute before being sent off in the 90th minute.

Despite finishing with 10 players themselves, the Dynamo saw out the result with determination. Augusto’s 21st-minute penalty was enough to give Houston all three points, while LA Galaxy were left to rue a night in which their attacking pressure produced no shot on target.
