Orlando Pride needed patience, pressure and finally a late moment of quality to break Chicago Stars FC resistance on Friday night, edging the visitors 1-0 at Inter&Co Stadium in the National Women’s Soccer League.
For long stretches, this looked destined to finish goalless. Orlando controlled much of the match, pinned Chicago back for extended spells and kept asking questions, but the breakthrough refused to come until Julie Doyle found it in the 88th minute. Her late goal proved decisive, rewarding the Pride for a relentless attacking display and sending the home crowd away with three valuable points.
The first half ended 0-0, though Orlando had already established the pattern of the fixture. The Pride saw more of the ball, enjoyed territory and repeatedly worked shooting opportunities, while Chicago were left trying to stay compact and threaten only sporadically on the counter. Despite Orlando’s control, the visitors did enough defensively to reach the interval level.

There was still time for a tense finish. Even so, the Pride managed the final moments well enough to see out the clean sheet and secure the result.
From Orlando’s perspective, this was not a night for free-flowing finishing, but it was one of persistence and control. Doyle’s 88′ winner supplied the headline moment, while the overall performance reflected a side willing to keep pressing until the chance arrived. For Chicago Stars FC, the defensive effort nearly earned a point, but the late lapse left them leaving Florida empty-handed.
