Ipswich Town 1–2 Bournemouth: Evanilson opener and Davis own goal seal away win

Bournemouth held off Ipswich Town’s comeback bid to secure a 2–1 Premier League victory at Portman Road on Sunday, with an early breakthrough and an own goal proving decisive.

Evanilson put the visitors ahead in the fifth minute before Leif Davis’s own goal in the 46th doubled their advantage. Substitute Jack Clarke gave Ipswich renewed hope with a 73rd-minute penalty, but the hosts could not find an equaliser in front of 29,396 spectators.

Evanilson gives Bournemouth the early edge

Ipswich were forced to chase the fixture almost immediately after Evanilson struck in the fifth minute. That early lead gave Bournemouth a valuable foothold, and they reached the interval with their one-goal advantage intact.

A flurry of bookings punctuated the closing stages of the first half: Bournemouth’s Adam Smith and Marcus Tavernier, along with Ipswich’s Julio Enciso, all received yellow cards in the 43rd minute.

Davis own goal leaves Ipswich with a mountain to climb

The hosts’ task became considerably harder in the 46th minute when Davis put through his own net to make it 2–0. It was a damaging setback for Ipswich, who now needed two goals to salvage a draw.

Clarke offered a route back into the contest, converting from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute to cut the deficit. With only one goal separating the sides, the closing stages carried fresh jeopardy for Bournemouth.

There was no further breakthrough, however. The visitors protected their slender lead through a lengthy period of added time, with António Silva booked in the 93rd minute and Ipswich substitute Zian Flemming cautioned in the 99th before the final whistle.

More possession, but less cutting edge for Ipswich

Ipswich finished with 55.8% possession, yet Bournemouth produced the greater attacking volume. The visitors registered 15 attempts to the hosts’ 10, led four to two in shots on target and earned seven corners to Ipswich’s two.

Those figures underline the distinction between having the ball and turning it into a consistent threat. Clarke’s penalty kept the outcome in doubt, but Ipswich ultimately paid for conceding at the start of each half.

Both clubs return to Premier League action on Saturday, November 21. Ipswich face Tottenham Hotspur, while Bournemouth take on Nottingham Forest, with both fixtures scheduled for 7:00 AM PST.
