Lukas MacNaughton delivered a dramatic winner in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time as St. Louis CITY SC beat Houston Dynamo FC 1-0 at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday, November 7. With a goalless draw looming, MacNaughton’s 90+7-minute goal turned a tight MLS Western Conference fixture into a painful home defeat for Houston.
Houston’s attempts go unrewarded
The sides reached halftime level at 0-0, and the deadlock endured well beyond the restart. Across the match, Houston produced the greater volume of attempts, finishing with 23 shots to St. Louis’ 13 and six efforts on target to the visitors’ one.
The Dynamo also won nine corners against three, but those opportunities never yielded a goal. St. Louis had more of the ball, recording 58.8% possession, while Houston’s 41.2% share did not prevent the hosts from building a substantial advantage in attempts.
MacNaughton settles it deep into stoppage time
Houston’s Lucas Halter was booked in the 82nd minute, with the fixture still goalless as regulation time drew to a close. A draw remained a realistic outcome until MacNaughton supplied the decisive intervention at 90+7.
His goal made the difference with St. Louis’ only effort on target of the entire match. The visitors then saw out the remaining moments to secure all three points and a clean sheet.
A ruthless finish, a frustrating night
For Houston, the defining numbers were 23 shots, six on target and no goals: plenty of attempts, but no reward. St. Louis left with the opposite story, converting their lone on-target attempt into a victory at the very last.
A fixture that had stayed level for almost its entire duration ultimately belonged to MacNaughton and St. Louis, whose late breakthrough left the Dynamo with no time to repair the damage.
