Minnesota United FC made their chances count at BMO Stadium on Sunday, November 1, earning a 3–1 Major League Soccer victory over LAFC behind two goals from Joaquín Pereyra. The visitors produced just six shots to LAFC’s 22, but their clinical finishing proved decisive.

Two goals in five minutes put Minnesota ahead

Pereyra broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, giving Minnesota the breakthrough in a fixture that would ultimately turn on the visitors’ efficiency in front of goal. Cherrion Valerius added a second in the 34th minute, leaving LAFC with a two-goal deficit to address before the interval.

That five-minute burst established the platform for Minnesota’s victory. Possession was almost evenly split across the match, with the visitors holding a marginal 50.2 percent share, but the difference between the sides was far greater where it mattered most.

Pereyra settles it before late LAFC reply

LAFC finished with seven shots on target and eight corners, compared with Minnesota’s three shots on target and one corner. Those numbers offered little consolation to the hosts: all three of Minnesota’s efforts on target resulted in goals.

With LAFC still unable to find a breakthrough, Pereyra struck again in the 81st minute. His second goal of the evening extended the advantage to 3–0 and put the visitors firmly on course for all three points.

Substitute Sergio Vásquez finally gave LAFC something to show for their attacking output, volleying home in the 89th minute. It denied Minnesota a clean sheet but arrived too late to change the outcome.

Efficiency makes the difference

Pereyra’s brace was the defining contribution, while Valerius’s first-half goal ensured Minnesota had breathing room for much of the contest. For LAFC, the frustration lay in turning a substantial advantage in shots and corners into only one late goal.

Both clubs return to action on Saturday, November 7, at 4:00 PM PST. LAFC face Seattle Sounders FC, while Minnesota United take on San Jose Earthquakes.
