Ayoub Jabbari supplied the decisive touch in the 70th minute as FC Cincinnati edged Philadelphia Union 1–0 at TQL Stadium on Saturday, October 31. In an MLS fixture where the visitors produced more attempts and far more corners, Cincinnati made their breakthrough count and protected it through the final whistle.
Goalless at the break
Neither side found the net in the opening half, leaving the contest level at 0–0 at the interval. The eventual match statistics reflected a competitive balance in possession, with Cincinnati taking a narrow 51.2 percent share to Philadelphia’s 48.8 percent.
There was a sharper contrast in attacking output. Across the full match, the Union registered 15 shots to Cincinnati’s seven and put six attempts on target compared with the hosts’ two. Philadelphia also earned 12 corners, four times Cincinnati’s total, but those opportunities brought no breakthrough.
Jabbari makes the difference
With the sides still level entering the final quarter of regulation, Jabbari broke the deadlock in the 70th minute. His goal gave Cincinnati the advantage in a contest that had remained on course for a draw until that moment.
Philadelphia could not find an equalizer, and Cincinnati carried their narrow lead through six minutes of second-half stoppage time to secure all three points and a clean sheet.
Efficiency wins out
The contrast was clear: Philadelphia generated the greater volume of attempts, but Cincinnati delivered the only goal. The hosts needed just two shots on target to settle the fixture, while the Union were left to rue a return of no goals from six efforts on target and a dozen corners.
For Cincinnati, Jabbari’s 70th-minute intervention turned a closely balanced contest into a valuable home victory. For Philadelphia, the frustration lay in creating opportunities without converting them.
