Arsenal struck first and had the final word as they earned a 2–2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, October 21. Declan Rice’s 82nd-minute equaliser settled a UEFA Champions League league-phase fixture in which both sides led but neither could secure all three points.

Eberechi Eze put Arsenal ahead in the 25th minute before Alphonso Davies levelled in the 35th. Harry Kane’s 61st-minute penalty then moved Bayern in front, only for Rice to restore parity with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

First-half goals leave the contest level

Arsenal’s breakthrough arrived through Eze in the 25th minute, giving the visitors an advantage on a demanding European away trip. That lead lasted just 10 minutes: Davies supplied Bayern’s response in the 35th minute to make it 1–1.

The visitors also collected two first-half bookings, with Kai Havertz cautioned in the 13th minute and Ezri Konsa following in the 39th. At the interval, however, the central story was the balance on the scoreboard, with both sides having found a way through.

Bayern turn it around, Arsenal answer late

The next decisive moment came from the penalty spot. Kane converted in the 61st minute to give Bayern a 2–1 lead and leave Arsenal needing a response.

That response arrived through Rice in the 82nd minute. His equaliser ensured Arsenal would leave Munich with a point rather than an away defeat, while Bayern were denied victory after recovering from their early deficit.

Fine margins reflected in the numbers

The final statistics underlined how closely the sides were matched. Arsenal held 53.9 per cent possession and registered 14 attempts to Bayern’s 13, while both teams finished with five shots on target. The visitors also won five corners to the hosts’ three.

Those narrow differences ultimately produced no winner. For Arsenal, there was satisfaction in finding a late equaliser; for Bayern, frustration at being unable to protect their second-half lead. A point apiece was the outcome of a contest that swung in both directions.
