LAFC answered Austin FC’s equalizer almost immediately, turning a briefly level contest into a 3–1 victory at BMO Stadium on Wednesday, October 14. Denis Bouanga struck in the 52nd and 67th minutes, while Son Heung-Min added a third in the 72nd to settle an eventful second half in this MLS Western Conference fixture.

Bouanga breaks the deadlock

The teams reached halftime goalless, leaving the breakthrough—and all four goals—for after the interval. Bouanga put LAFC ahead in the 52nd minute, giving the hosts the advantage despite Austin finishing the evening with the greater share of possession.

The visitors found a way back through Brandon Vázquez in the 66th minute. His equalizer restored parity and offered Austin an opportunity to push for a result, but that opening lasted only until the following minute.

An immediate response changes the match

Bouanga struck again in the 67th minute, completing his brace and putting LAFC back in front before Austin could build on their equalizer. It was the decisive swing: the visitors had worked their way level, only to surrender the advantage almost immediately.

Son then added LAFC’s third in the 72nd minute, establishing a two-goal cushion just six minutes after Vázquez had made it 1–1. From a contest hanging in the balance, the hosts had carved out a commanding position.

LAFC turn less possession into more threat

The final statistics underlined the difference between having the ball and creating danger. Austin held 60.4 percent possession, but LAFC generated 28 shots to the visitors’ 14 and led 11–4 in attempts on target. The hosts also earned seven corners to Austin’s five.

Bouanga’s two-goal contribution supplied the pivotal moments, while Son’s finish gave LAFC breathing room. For Austin, the frustration was not simply conceding three times, but seeing their equalizer undone so quickly.
