Colorado Rapids twice took the lead but could not shake off Minnesota United FC, sharing the points in a dramatic 2–2 MLS draw at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday, October 14.

Darren Yapi struck in first-half stoppage time (45+1’), only for Kelvin Yeboah to equalize in the 52nd minute. Despite losing Saied Abu Farchi to a red card in the 68th minute, Colorado regained the advantage through Georgi Minoungou’s 74th-minute volley. An own goal by Rapids defender Loic Williams in the 83rd minute ultimately earned Minnesota a point.

Yapi gives Colorado the halftime edge

The Rapids finished the evening with the greater share of possession and more attempts, but their breakthrough arrived only moments before the interval. Yapi, who had been booked in the 11th minute, put the hosts ahead in the first minute of added time to send Colorado into the dressing room with a 1–0 lead.

Minnesota’s response came seven minutes after the restart. Yeboah’s 52nd-minute equalizer wiped out the advantage and set up a second half that would turn on both a dismissal and two further goals.

Ten-man Rapids lead again before late setback

Colorado’s task became harder when Abu Farchi was shown a red card in the 68th minute. Yet rather than surrender the initiative entirely, the hosts found another breakthrough six minutes later: Minoungou’s volley in the 74th minute restored their lead despite the numerical disadvantage.

That put the Rapids within reach of a hard-earned victory, but Minnesota drew level again in the 83rd minute when Williams put through his own net. The own goal made it 2–2, and neither side found a winner before the final whistle.

More possession, but a point apiece

Colorado held 60.3 percent possession, outshot Minnesota 15–11 and registered four attempts on target to the visitors’ two. The Rapids also won seven corners to Minnesota’s four, but those statistical advantages were not enough to secure all three points.

For Colorado, there was encouragement in retaking the lead with ten men, alongside frustration at letting a second advantage slip. Minnesota, meanwhile, twice recovered from behind to leave Commerce City with a share of the points.

Both clubs return to action on Saturday, October 17. Colorado face Portland Timbers at 7:30 p.m. PDT, while Minnesota take on St. Louis CITY SC earlier in the day at 1:30 p.m. PDT.
