Aston Villa delivered a ruthless Champions League performance on Wednesday, dismantling Fenerbahce 6–0 at Villa Park with three goals in each half. Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley both netted braces, while Johan Manzambi opened the scoring and Tammy Abraham completed the rout.
The emphatic result owed more to Villa’s cutting edge than control of possession. The hosts had just 44.8% of the ball but produced 20 shots, including 11 on target, turning their attacking opportunities into a punishing evening for the visitors.
Manzambi opens the door, Jackson takes charge
Johan Manzambi put Villa ahead in the 12th minute, giving the home side an early advantage in this league-phase fixture. Fenerbahce then faced a decisive eight-minute spell as Nicolas Jackson doubled the lead in the 31st minute before adding his second in the 39th.
Those two goals left Villa firmly in command at 3–0 by half-time. Fenerbahce’s task was already formidable, with Matteo Guendouzi also receiving a yellow card in the 42nd minute before the interval.
Barkley’s quick double extends the damage
The visitors avoided further damage until midway through the second half, but Ross Barkley made it 4–0 from the penalty spot in the 68th minute. Just four minutes later, Barkley struck again in the 72nd minute to complete his brace and take Villa’s tally to five.
Fenerbahce could find no response. Oguz Aydin was booked in the 78th minute, and Tammy Abraham supplied the final goal in the 90th minute to seal a six-goal victory and cap a memorable European night for the hosts.
Villa’s efficiency makes the difference
Fenerbahce’s 55.2% possession and 15 shots show they were not entirely absent from the contest, but only four of those attempts were on target. Villa were substantially more productive in front of goal, registering 11 efforts on target and also edging the corner count 9–7.
For Villa, the combination of a clean sheet and six goals made this a hugely satisfying league-phase performance. For Fenerbahce, the stark contrast between their share of possession and the final result underlined how decisively the fixture was settled in the penalty areas.
