Barcelona turned a first-half setback into an emphatic statement in Istanbul, coming from behind to beat Galatasaray 4–1 at RAMS Park on Tuesday, October 13. Three goals in a devastating 15-minute spell after the interval settled this UEFA Champions League league-phase fixture.

Alexey Batrakov put the hosts ahead in the 28th minute, but João Cancelo equalised in the 43rd before Fermín López, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi struck in the 50th, 53rd and 65th minutes respectively. What had been a level contest at half-time became a convincing away victory.

Galatasaray strike first, Cancelo restores parity

Galatasaray gave themselves an early platform when Batrakov opened the scoring after 28 minutes. Against a Barcelona side that would finish with 71% possession, the hosts had secured the advantage despite seeing considerably less of the ball across the evening.

They could not carry that lead into the dressing room. Cancelo’s 43rd-minute equaliser brought Barcelona back to 1–1, changing the complexion of the fixture just before the interval and leaving both sides with everything to play for.

Barcelona’s quick double breaks the contest open

The decisive passage arrived shortly after the restart. López headed Barcelona in front in the 50th minute, giving the visitors the lead for the first time.

Just three minutes later, Gordon added their third. In the space of a few minutes, Galatasaray had gone from being level to facing a two-goal deficit, while Barcelona had translated their territorial superiority into a commanding advantage.

Adeyemi then made it 4–1 in the 65th minute, completing a burst of three Barcelona goals in 15 minutes. The hosts, who had led for much of the latter part of the first half, were left with too much ground to recover.

The numbers underline Barcelona’s authority

Barcelona’s attacking output supported the emphatic result: 22 attempts to Galatasaray’s five, with 11 shots on target compared with three for the hosts. The visitors also earned six corners to Galatasaray’s one.

Those figures tell the story of a side that generated substantially more opportunities, but the timing of the goals was just as important. Cancelo’s equaliser prevented Galatasaray from taking a lead into half-time, and the quick double from López and Gordon took the fixture away from them after the restart.

The result leaves Barcelona with two wins from two in the league phase, while Galatasaray have suffered two defeats. For the visitors, this was an impressive response to adversity; for the hosts, the challenge is to turn promising moments into a more sustained performance on the European stage.
