Arsenal turned a goalless contest into a convincing European victory with three goals in seven minutes, beating Lille 3–0 at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, October 13. Jurriën Timber broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, Eberechi Eze doubled the advantage in the 67th, and Bukayo Saka completed the decisive burst in the 71st.
The result gave Arsenal a second win from two UEFA Champions League league-phase fixtures, while Lille suffered their second defeat.
A level first half, then a decisive burst
Neither side found the net before the interval, leaving the fixture finely balanced at 0–0. Mikel Merino’s booking in the 29th minute was the first disciplinary incident, but the breakthrough remained elusive well into the second half.
That changed when Timber opened the scoring in the 64th minute. After more than an hour without a goal, Arsenal suddenly found their cutting edge: Eze added the second just three minutes later, putting Lille under immediate pressure to respond.
Instead, Saka struck in the 71st minute to make it 3–0. In the space of seven minutes, Arsenal had transformed the contest and left the visitors facing a deficit they could not recover.
Arsenal’s advantage reflected in the numbers
The final statistics underlined the hosts’ superiority. Arsenal registered 16 shots, eight on target, compared with Lille’s four attempts and none on target. The home side also held 58.1% possession and won seven corners; Lille did not earn a single corner.
Those numbers gave Arsenal’s clean sheet added substance. Even while the teams were level, Lille were unable to produce an effort on target, and the visitors finished without a goal to soften the defeat.
Maxima Goffi was booked for Lille in the 81st minute, with Arsenal’s Kai Havertz also receiving a yellow card in the second minute of added time. Neither incident altered a result settled by the hosts’ rapid succession of goals.
For Arsenal, the defining feature was the speed with which they converted a level contest into three points. A goalless first half demanded patience; their seven-minute burst after the interval supplied the emphatic answer.
