Vancouver Whitecaps and D.C. United delivered a six-goal MLS thriller at BC Place on Saturday night, finishing level at 3-3 after a match that swung repeatedly between the two sides.
D.C. United struck first in the 16th minute through Kimito Nono, but Vancouver responded with authority. Brian White equalised in the 25th minute before Bruno Caicedo put the Whitecaps ahead in first-half stoppage time, scoring at 45+3′ to send the hosts into the interval with a 2-1 advantage.
The visitors refused to fade. Lucas Bartlett powered home a header in the 65th minute to restore parity, only for Vancouver to regain the lead seven minutes later when Thomas Müller scored in the 72nd minute.
There was still one final turn in an open, attacking contest. Nono completed his brace with a volley in the 80th minute, bringing D.C. United level once more and securing a hard-earned point on the road.
Vancouver controlled 63.4% of possession and put nine of their 16 attempts on target, but D.C. United carried a persistent threat despite seeing less of the ball. The visitors registered 21 shots, eight on target, and earned 10 corners as they continually tested the Whitecaps’ defensive resolve.
The draw leaves Vancouver with a 15-5-6 record, while D.C. United move to 6-12-8. After a weekend off, the Whitecaps return to action against LAFC on October 10, while D.C. United host Inter Miami CF on the same day.
