San Diego Wave FC produced a composed away performance at Lynn Family Stadium on Friday, defeating Racing Louisville FC 2-0 in the NWSL.
Gia Corley gave the visitors the breakthrough in the 27th minute, finishing off a period in which San Diego had increasingly taken control of the ball and territory. Racing Louisville worked to stay in the contest, but the Wave carried a 1-0 lead into the interval after limiting the hosts to few clear sights of goal.
San Diego made their advantage count quickly after the restart. Ludmila struck in the 49th minute to double the lead, putting the Wave in command and forcing Louisville to chase the fixture for the remainder of the evening.
Racing Louisville did create 12 shots and won three corners, but only one effort tested the San Diego goalkeeper. The Wave’s greater control was reflected in the underlying numbers: they held 58.9 percent possession, outshot Louisville 20-12, put nine attempts on target to one, and earned seven corners.
Kayla Fischer was shown a yellow card in the 63rd minute as Louisville sought a route back into the match, but San Diego saw out the clean sheet without surrendering their two-goal cushion.
The result moves San Diego Wave FC to 15-3-8, while Racing Louisville fall to 7-2-17. Louisville next host Boston Legacy FC on October 16, while San Diego return home to face Orlando Pride on October 2.
