Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders FC produced a breathless six-goal MLS draw on Saturday night, with Caden Clark’s 90+3′ equaliser rescuing a 3-3 result for the visitors at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Morgan Whittaker was the standout attacking presence for Colorado, scoring in the 28th and 76th minutes, but the Rapids could not hold a two-goal advantage late on as Seattle again found a response.
Whittaker gives Rapids first-half edge
The Rapids carried a 1-0 lead into the interval after Whittaker struck in the 28th minute. Colorado were sharp in front of goal throughout the match, finishing with 18 attempts and seven on target despite seeing slightly less of the ball than Seattle.
Seattle had 52.3% possession and six corners, but they entered the break still searching for a breakthrough.
End-to-end second half delivers late drama
Cristian Roldan levelled for Seattle with a header in the 49th minute, only for Colorado to hit back six minutes later through Donavan Phillip. The Rapids appeared to have put themselves in command when Whittaker completed his brace in the 76th minute.
But Seattle refused to fold. Dejan Joveljic reduced the deficit in the 79th minute, setting up a tense final stretch. Deep into stoppage time, Clark struck in the 90+3′ minute to complete the comeback and ensure the points were shared.
The final numbers reflected the fixture’s competitive balance: Colorado registered 18 shots to Seattle’s 16, while both sides placed a high number of efforts on target, with the Rapids recording seven and the Sounders six.
Colorado move on to face LA Galaxy on Saturday, September 26. Seattle return to action sooner, hosting Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, September 23.
