Gotham FC left Lynn Family Stadium with a valuable 2-1 National Women’s Soccer League victory over Racing Louisville FC on Friday night, with Jaedyn Shaw’s goal just after the interval proving the difference in Louisville.
Gotham made a fast start and took the lead in the 8th minute through Guro Reiten. The visitors’ early breakthrough gave them a platform to control long stretches of the match, particularly in possession, but Racing responded with resilience in front of 5,748 supporters.
Kayla Fischer levelled the match in the 17th minute, rising to head Racing Louisville back into contention. The goal ensured the sides went into half-time locked at 1-1, despite Gotham holding the territorial edge.
The decisive moment arrived immediately after the restart. Jaedyn Shaw scored in the 46th minute to restore Gotham’s advantage, and the visitors managed the second half effectively from there. Gotham finished with 71.7 percent possession and outshot Racing 14-10, while also putting six efforts on target to Louisville’s three.
Racing continued to compete without finding another equaliser, with the home side collecting yellow cards through Sarah Weber in the 45th minute, Lauren Milliet in the 69th minute and Makenna Morris in stoppage time. Gotham’s sharper use of the ball and clinical early-second-half strike ultimately secured the points.
The result leaves Gotham FC with a 14-6-4 record, while Racing Louisville move to 7-2-15. Racing return to action against Bay FC on September 20, while Gotham face North Carolina Courage on September 19.
