Kansas City Current produced a rousing second-half response to claim a 2-2 draw with Orlando Pride in Friday night’s NWSL fixture at CPKC Stadium.
Barbra Banda put the Pride in control with two goals either side of half-time, scoring in the 43rd and 50th minutes. But the Current refused to let the match slip away in front of 11,500 supporters, striking twice in three minutes through Temwa Chawinga and Elizabeth Ball.
Orlando took a 1-0 lead into the interval after Banda found the breakthrough in the 43rd minute. The forward doubled the visitors’ advantage five minutes after the restart, giving the Pride a seemingly commanding position.
Kansas City responded immediately. Chawinga pulled one back in the 53rd minute, and Ball completed the comeback in the 56th minute to level an absorbing contest at 2-2.
The Current carried much of the attacking volume, finishing with 55.5 percent possession, 24 shots, eight efforts on target and 13 corners. Orlando, however, remained a genuine threat with Banda’s clinical double accounting for two of their 12 shots.
Neither side could find a late winner, with the points ultimately shared after a breathless second half. The Current move on to face San Diego Wave FC on September 18, while Orlando Pride’s next fixture is against Portland Thorns FC on September 19.
