Colorado Rapids 1-0 LAFC — Colorado made home advantage count on Wednesday night, grinding out a narrow MLS victory over LAFC at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.
The decisive moment arrived in the 22nd minute, when Jeremy Ebobisse’s own goal handed the Rapids a 1-0 lead. It was the only goal of a closely contested match, with Colorado taking that advantage into half-time and protecting it through a scoreless second half.
There was little to separate the sides in possession, with Colorado holding a marginal 50.7% to LAFC’s 49.3%. The Rapids were more productive in the final third, however, registering 13 shots and four on target compared with LAFC’s 10 attempts and two on target. Both teams earned four corners.
The first half had an increasingly physical edge. LAFC’s Yevhen Cheberko was booked in the 20th minute, before Ebobisse’s 22nd-minute own goal changed the complexion of the match. Colorado’s Youssef Maziz saw yellow in the 32nd minute, while Eddie Segura and Nkosi Tafari were cautioned for LAFC before the interval.
Colorado managed the second period without adding to their lead, though Darren Yapi was booked in the 56th minute and Kosi Thompson followed in the 88th. LAFC could not find the equaliser despite keeping the match in the balance until the final whistle, which came after nine minutes of added time.
The result moves Colorado’s record to 9-1-10, while LAFC fall to 10-4-7. The Rapids return to action on Saturday, August 22, against San Diego FC, while LAFC travel to face Portland Timbers on the same evening.
