FC Dallas withstood a relentless late push from Real Salt Lake to take a breathless 4-3 Major League Soccer victory at America First Field on Wednesday night.
Petar Musa struck twice in the first half, while Joaquín Valiente and Ran Binyamin also found the net for Dallas, who built a two-goal interval advantage and ultimately had just enough to see off the hosts. Real Salt Lake answered through Sergi Solans, Morgan Guilavogui and Diego Luna, but their comeback fell narrowly short.
Dallas strike early and often
The visitors made the sharper start despite spending much of the night without the ball. Valiente opened the scoring in the 16th minute, giving Dallas an early foothold in Sandy.
Musa doubled the advantage four minutes later, heading home in the 20th minute to put FC Dallas firmly in control. Real Salt Lake responded through Solans in the 38th minute, briefly restoring belief for the home side, but Musa delivered another decisive blow just before the break with his second goal in the 45th minute.
That left Dallas 3-1 ahead at half-time, a scoreline that reflected their clinical edge in front of goal.
Real Salt Lake rally, but Dallas find decisive fourth
Real Salt Lake came out with renewed urgency after the interval and Guilavogui reduced the deficit in the 50th minute. The hosts continued to push, carrying 58.8% possession and producing 14 shots, including seven on target, across the match.
Dallas, however, retained their threat in transition and Binyamin restored the visitors’ two-goal cushion in the 90th minute. It proved to be a crucial intervention.
Luna had earlier made it 3-3 with a header in the 64th minute, completing a spirited Real Salt Lake recovery after Guilavogui’s strike. But Binyamin’s late finish turned the fixture back in Dallas’ favor before the final whistle.
FC Dallas finished with 13 shots and five on target, making their four goals count in an impressively efficient away performance. The result moves Dallas to 9-6-5, while Real Salt Lake drop to 8-4-7 despite a determined attacking display.
Real Salt Lake return to action on Saturday against Orlando City SC, while FC Dallas travel on to face Vancouver Whitecaps.
