Angel City FC salvaged a deserved point at BMO Stadium on Sunday night, with Ally Sentnor striking in the 85th minute to secure a 1-1 National Women’s Soccer League draw against Washington Spirit.
After a goalless first half, Washington found the breakthrough through Trinity Rodman in the 65th minute. The Spirit attacker gave the visitors the lead in a tightly contested fixture, one in which Washington had enjoyed a slight edge in possession at 54.6 percent.
Angel City, though, continued to push for a response. The hosts produced 17 shots and created 13 shot assists, repeatedly testing a Spirit side that had looked set to leave Los Angeles with all three points.
The pressure finally told five minutes from time. Sentnor found the decisive moment in the 85th minute, restoring parity and lifting the home side after Rodman’s earlier opener.
Neither side could find a late winner during eight minutes of added time, although Angel City continued to ask questions with four corners across the match. Both teams finished with three shots on target, while Washington edged the corner count 5-4.
The draw leaves Angel City with a 7-4-7 record, while Washington move to 11-4-5. It was a point earned through persistence for Angel City, and one Washington will view as an opportunity to reflect on after leading deep into the second half.
