Seattle Reign FC and Angel City FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Lumen Field on Sunday night, with both sides producing a strong case for the point they earned in a fiercely contested National Women’s Soccer League fixture.

Angel City took a 1-0 advantage into halftime after Gisele Thompson struck in the 32nd minute. The visitors had created the greater set-piece pressure in the opening period, finishing with eight corners, and Thompson’s goal gave them a platform after a closely balanced first half.

The Reign responded with purpose after the interval. Sally Menti brought Seattle level in the 50th minute, igniting the home support, and Mia Fishel completed a rapid turnaround just two minutes later. Fishel’s 52nd-minute goal put Seattle 2-1 ahead and transformed the rhythm of the match.

Angel City, however, refused to let the fixture slip away. Prisca Chilufya delivered the equaliser in the 72nd minute, finishing with a volley to restore parity and cap an impressive away response. Both teams continued to press in the closing stages, but neither could find a decisive third goal.

The numbers reflected how little separated the sides. Seattle and Angel City each recorded 16 shots and six on target, while Angel City held a narrow 50.8% share of possession to Seattle’s 49.2%. The Reign generated three corners, while Angel City’s eight-corner total underlined their threat from wide and dead-ball situations.

There was late edge as Sofia Huerta was booked for Seattle in the 76th minute before Angel City’s Emily Sams saw yellow in the 86th. Still, neither side could break the deadlock during seven minutes of added time.

In front of 7,102 supporters in Seattle, the Reign showed their resilience with a devastating two-minute burst early in the second half, while Angel City showed equal resolve to answer through Chilufya. The final whistle confirmed a 2-2 draw that felt like a fair reflection of an open, high-quality contest.
