Chicago Stars FC and Bay FC settled for a hard-fought 0-0 draw on Sunday at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium in Evanston, with neither side able to convert its pressure into the decisive goal.
There were no goal scorers in the fixture, but the match was far from short on attacking intent. Chicago had a slight edge in possession at 51.9 percent and won six corners, while Bay FC produced the sharper figures in front of goal, outshooting the hosts 14-13 and registering five shots on target to Chicago’s one.
Bay’s attempts to turn that advantage into a winner were met by a disciplined Chicago defensive display. The Stars created nine shot assists and continued to push through set pieces, but their final ball and finishing could not provide the breakthrough.
The second half grew increasingly physical. Bay FC’s Claire Hutton was shown a yellow card in the 49th minute, before Sydney Collins was cautioned in the 75th minute. Both teams committed 12 fouls in a closely contested midfield battle.
After nine minutes of stoppage time, the final whistle confirmed a legitimate point apiece. Chicago will take encouragement from a clean sheet and their control of possession, while Bay FC may feel they left an opportunity on the pitch after producing the greater number of shots on target.
