Bay FC delivered one of their sharpest performances of the National Women’s Soccer League season on Saturday, July 18, sweeping aside North Carolina Courage 3-0 at PayPal Park in San Jose.

The hosts did their damage early and never looked back. Karlie Lema set the tone with a ruthless first-half brace, striking in the 14th minute and again in the 17th, before Racheal Kundananji put the result beyond doubt with Bay FC’s third in the 54th minute.

For Bay FC, it was a match built on clinical finishing and timely pressure. Even in a fixture where North Carolina Courage edged possession at 52.1 percent and won eight corners to Bay’s two, the home side were far more decisive in the key moments. Bay FC matched the visitors with 14 total shots, but made their openings count by putting six efforts on target and converting three of them.

The breakthrough arrived in the 14th minute when Karlie Lema found the net to ignite the crowd. Just three minutes later, Lema struck again in the 17th minute, leaving North Carolina Courage chasing the match far earlier than they would have wanted. That quick-fire double gave Bay FC a 2-0 halftime lead and complete control of the contest.

North Carolina Courage tried to respond after the interval and did create their share of attacking situations, finishing with five shots on target and 12 shot assists. But Bay FC remained organized without the ball and looked dangerous whenever space opened up in transition.

The decisive third goal came in the 54th minute, when Racheal Kundananji added her name to the scoresheet and effectively ended any realistic hope of a Courage comeback. At 3-0, Bay FC were able to manage the tempo, stay compact, and see out the clean sheet in front of an announced crowd of 12,081.

There was an efficiency to Bay FC’s display that managers love in a long league campaign: absorb pressure when needed, punish mistakes, and finish the chances that matter most. Two assists and three well-taken goals told the story of a side that was sharper in both penalty areas.

The result lifts confidence for Bay FC after a mixed recent run, while North Carolina Courage will be left to rue a match in which they saw plenty of the ball but lacked the cutting edge to trouble the scoreboard.
