St. Louis CITY SC left Commerce City with a desperately needed three points on Saturday night, edging the Colorado Rapids 1-0 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park thanks to Jeong Sang-Bin’s 26th-minute goal.

In a fixture that grew increasingly tense as the night wore on, St. Louis made their first-half breakthrough count and then showed the grit required to protect it. Colorado saw plenty of the ball and won a stream of set pieces, but they could not find a way past a disciplined visiting side that bent without breaking.

Jeong punishes Colorado in first half

The decisive moment arrived in the 26th minute when Jeong Sang-Bin struck for St. Louis CITY SC, finishing the visitors’ best attacking move of the opening half and giving them a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish.

That goal separated the sides at the interval, with St. Louis going into halftime ahead 1-0 despite seeing less of the possession. The opening 45 minutes also carried a growing edge: Colorado’s Hamzat Ojediran went into the book in the 19th minute, Rafael Navarro followed with a yellow card in the 44th minute, and St. Louis had already picked up a caution of their own in the 13th minute.

Rapids push, then suffer a major setback

Colorado attempted to raise the pressure after the restart, but their task became much tougher in the 51st minute when Rob Holding was shown a red card. Reduced to 10 men, the Rapids were forced to chase the match with less margin for error, even as they continued to press forward whenever possible.

The home side still managed to territorialy pin St. Louis back for spells. Colorado finished with 55.8 percent possession and a commanding 11-1 advantage in corners, signs of how much of the second half was played with the Rapids asking questions. But for all of that pressure, they put only two shots on target, and that lack of cutting edge ultimately cost them.

Late drama as St. Louis also go down to 10

St. Louis did not navigate the closing stages entirely cleanly. Brendan McSorley, Conrad Wallem, Christopher Durkin, and Miguel Perez all entered the referee’s notebook, with Durkin’s evening ending early after a red card in the 87th minute. That dismissal gave Colorado one final opening to throw numbers forward deep into stoppage time.

Even then, St. Louis held firm. The visitors finished with only 44.2 percent possession, just one corner, and one shot on target — but that one effort on frame was enough because Jeong’s finish in the 26th minute was the only goal the match would produce.

What the result means

For St. Louis CITY SC, this was not about style points. It was about resilience, defensive commitment, and taking a big chance when it arrived. On a night when they spent long stretches absorbing pressure, they delivered a classic away performance and emerged with a legitimate 1-0 result.

For Colorado, it was a frustrating evening defined by control without incision. The Rapids generated pressure, won corners, and pushed until the final whistle, but the combination of Holding’s red card and a lack of composure in the final third left them empty-handed.

Final score: Colorado Rapids 0-1 St. Louis CITY SC. The difference was Jeong Sang-Bin, 26′.
