Denver Summit FC delivered one of their sharpest attacking performances of the National Women’s Soccer League season on Saturday night, easing past Houston Dash 4-1 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Backed by a lively attacking display and a clear edge in the final third, Denver made their pressure count through Janine Sonis in the 15th minute, Natasha Flint in the 34th minute, Delanie Sheehan in the 49th minute, and Sonis again in the 72nd minute. Houston’s lone reply came just before the interval when Maggie Graham converted a penalty in the 45th minute.

The visitors started with purpose and were rewarded after a bright opening spell. Sonis broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, giving Denver Summit FC an early foothold and settling the away side into the fixture. Houston struggled to contain Denver’s movement, and the visitors continued to find promising spaces across the pitch.

That pressure told again in the 34th minute when Flint doubled the advantage, capping a first half in which Denver looked the more incisive side. Houston, though, found a route back into the contest on the stroke of halftime. Graham held her nerve from the spot in the 45th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 and give the Dash a lift heading into the break.

Any sense of a Houston comeback was short-lived. Just four minutes into the second half, Sheehan restored Denver’s two-goal cushion with a header in the 49th minute, a strike that shifted momentum firmly back toward the visitors. From there, Denver controlled key passages, moved the ball well, and continued to threaten whenever they advanced.

Sonis then put the result beyond real doubt in the 72nd minute, grabbing her second goal of the night to round off an impressive individual performance. By then, Denver’s superiority was reflected both on the scoreboard and in the numbers.

Denver Summit FC finished with 52.9 percent possession, 14 shots, 7 shots on target, and 8 corners, underlining how often they pinned Houston back. The Dash posted 47.1 percent possession, 7 shots, 3 shots on target, and 3 corners, but they were unable to sustain enough pressure after halftime to seriously unsettle the visitors.

There was a physical edge to the second half, with Denver’s Danielle Colaprico shown a yellow card in the 51st minute and Linda Ullmark booked in the 74th minute, but the visitors never lost control of the fixture.

For Houston, this was a frustrating night in front of an announced crowd of 7,111, especially after Graham’s penalty had offered a path back into the match. For Denver Summit FC, however, the trip to Texas produced a statement road result: four goals, a brace for Sonis, and three well-earned points.
