Aston Villa and Fulham shared the points in a 1–1 Premier League draw at Villa Park on Saturday, with Nicolas Jackson’s 39th-minute opener cancelled out by a Zion Suzuki own goal in the 64th minute.
In front of 34,649 supporters, Villa took a narrow advantage into the interval but could not turn it into victory. Fulham finished with more possession and more attempts on target, while the hosts produced the greater overall shot total in a fixture that ultimately left neither side with a decisive edge.
Jackson gives Villa the advantage
The breakthrough arrived six minutes before half-time, when Jackson struck in the 39th minute to put Villa 1–0 ahead. It proved the only goal of the opening period, leaving Fulham with work to do after the restart.
The visitors also reached the interval with both David Affengruber and Calvin Bassey cautioned. Affengruber was booked in the 30th minute, followed by Bassey — recently linked with Manchester United in transfer reports — in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time.
Suzuki own goal brings Fulham level
Fulham’s equaliser came in the 64th minute through an own goal by Villa goalkeeper Suzuki. That erased the hosts’ lead and set up a final stretch with all three results still possible.
Neither side found another breakthrough. Matty Cash received a yellow card in the 76th minute, with Fulham’s Tom Cairney following into the referee’s notebook a minute later, before the fixture ended level after six minutes of added time.
Contrasting numbers, shared reward
Villa registered 16 attempts to Fulham’s 14, but only three were on target compared with the visitors’ five. Fulham held 55 per cent possession, and both sides won seven corners: numbers that underline why neither team could claim a clear statistical advantage across the board.
For Villa, the frustration was surrendering a half-time lead on home turf. For Fulham, recovering from a goal down secured a valuable away point.
Fulham next face Newcastle United on Saturday, November 7, at 7:00 AM PST. Villa return to Premier League action against Manchester United on Sunday, November 8, at 8:30 AM PST.
