Jackson struck in the sixth and 60th minutes, either side of Erling Haaland’s 52nd-minute header, to settle a fixture in which City had more possession and attempts but Villa proved more clinical.

Jackson gives Villa an early advantage

Jackson put the hosts ahead after just six minutes, giving the Villa Park crowd an early lift and City an immediate problem to solve. That advantage survived until half-time, with Villa heading into the interval 1-0 up.

City’s first-half frustrations were accompanied by yellow cards for Marc Guéhi in the 32nd minute and Rayan Cherki in the 38th. Despite their overall command of possession, the visitors still needed a breakthrough after the restart.

Haaland levels, but Jackson answers

Haaland delivered it in the 52nd minute, heading home to bring City level at 1-1. The equaliser reopened the contest, but parity lasted only eight minutes.

After Villa bookings for Johan Manzambi and Matty Cash in the 54th and 55th minutes, Jackson restored the home side’s lead on the hour. His second goal proved the winner, with Villa protecting their 2-1 advantage through five minutes of second-half stoppage time.

Clinical Villa make their chances count

The contrast in efficiency defined the afternoon. City registered 63.2% possession, 15 attempts and seven shots on target, while Villa managed eight attempts and only two on target. Both of those efforts produced goals.

City also led the corner count seven to four, but their greater attacking volume did not translate into a second equaliser. In front of 36,743 spectators, Jackson’s double gave Villa the decisive edge.

A physical contest brought 38 fouls and eight yellow cards, split evenly between the sides. Yet the defining contribution belonged to Villa’s match-winner: an early breakthrough, followed by the perfect response to Haaland’s leveller.
