Angel City FC produced a ruthless attacking display to beat Boston Legacy FC 5-2 at Gillette Stadium on Monday night, with Prisca Chilufya scoring twice in a commanding National Women’s Soccer League victory.
The visitors needed only five minutes to make their mark. Ally Sentnor opened the scoring in the 5th minute, but Boston responded quickly through Sammy Smith, whose 8th-minute goal brought the hosts level and briefly reset a frantic start.
Angel City, however, seized control before the interval. Chilufya restored the away side’s advantage in the 14th minute, and Sveindís Jónsdóttir added a third four minutes later to send Angel City into half-time with a 3-1 lead.
Boston showed some attacking intent throughout, finishing with 10 shots and four on target, but Angel City’s greater control and cutting edge were evident. The visitors had 52.2% possession, created 12 shot assists, won eight corners and tested the goalkeeper with nine shots on target from 20 attempts.
Chilufya struck again in the 58th minute to put the result beyond serious doubt, completing her brace and capping a clinical night in front of goal. Substitute Maiara Niehues then made it 5-1 in the 66th minute as Angel City continued to punish Boston’s defensive lapses.
Boston did find a late consolation when Aïssata Traoré headed home in the 88th minute, but it did little to alter the complexion of a fixture Angel City had controlled for long spells.
The result moves Angel City’s overall record to 8-5-8, while Boston Legacy fall to 5-5-12. Boston return to action against Utah Royals on Friday, September 4, while Angel City face Racing Louisville FC on Saturday, September 5.
