New England Revolution and New York City FC shared the points in a tightly contested 1-1 MLS draw at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, with both goals arriving before the interval.
Dor Turgeman put the Revolution in front in the 36th minute, rewarding the home side’s bright spell and giving New England a deserved advantage. The hosts carried a slight edge in possession, holding 52.3 percent of the ball, and forced six shots on target from 10 attempts.
NYCFC, though, ensured they went into half-time level. James Sands found the equaliser in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, striking at 45+1′ to shift the momentum before the break.
The second half produced no further goals, but it remained competitive. New York City created 12 shots and put five on target, while New England continued to threaten through set pieces, winning six corners to NYCFC’s four.
Discipline became a factor after the restart, with Keaton Parks booked for NYCFC in the 61st minute and Jack Harrison shown a yellow card for the Revolution in the 69th. Neither side could find the decisive breakthrough, however, and the final whistle confirmed a legitimate point apiece.
New England move on to a home fixture against Columbus Crew on Saturday, August 29. NYCFC will return home the same day to face Toronto FC.
