Houston Dynamo FC delivered a clinical away performance on Saturday, earning a 2-0 Major League Soccer victory over New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.
The visitors carried the greater attacking threat and made it count at decisive moments, with Guilherme Augusto opening the scoring in first-half stoppage time before Agustín Resch’s 63rd-minute header put the result beyond doubt.
Augusto gives Houston a crucial interval lead
New England competed for long spells and won nine corners, but Houston were the more efficient side in the final third. The Dynamo finished with 13 shots and seven on target, compared with nine attempts and two on target for the Revolution.
With the match seemingly poised to reach the break goalless, Guilherme Augusto found the breakthrough at 45+1′. His goal gave Houston a valuable 1-0 advantage at half-time and shifted the pressure firmly onto the home side.
Resch header seals the points
The Revolution looked to find a route back after the restart, but Houston remained composed in possession, edging the ball 52.1% to 47.9%, and continued to create the clearer openings.
Agustín Resch doubled the visitors’ lead in the 63rd minute, rising to score with a header and cap a strong all-round display from the Dynamo. Houston then managed the closing stages effectively, limiting New England to just two shots on target and protecting their clean sheet through eight minutes of stoppage time.
Lawrence Ennali was booked for Houston in the 54th minute, while the Dynamo also received a late yellow card in stoppage time. Neither side had a player sent off.
The final whistle confirmed a deserved 2-0 result for Houston Dynamo FC, who extended their positive form with a disciplined road win. For New England Revolution, a match in which they had set-piece opportunities ultimately ended in frustration as they could not turn territorial spells into goals.
