St. Louis CITY SC delivered a devastating attacking display at Energizer Park on Sunday, October 11, defeating LA Galaxy 6–2 in Major League Soccer. Carlo Holse’s hat-trick inside the opening 21 minutes set the tone, and a five-goal first half left the visitors with little prospect of a recovery.

Holse puts CITY in command

The Galaxy barely had time to settle before Holse opened the scoring in the second minute. He struck again in the seventh, then completed his hat-trick in the 21st to give St. Louis a commanding 3–0 advantage.

It was a blistering start that shaped the entire fixture. With Holse already responsible for three goals, the visitors faced an uphill struggle before the opening half had even reached its midpoint.

Robert Taylor offered LA a foothold with a goal in the 31st minute, reducing the deficit to 3–1. Any hope that it might signal a turnaround, however, disappeared in another punishing spell just before the interval.

Rafael Navarro converted a penalty in the 45th minute to restore CITY’s three-goal cushion. Lukas MacNaughton then headed home in the seventh minute of first-half stoppage time, sending the hosts into the dressing room with a resounding 5–1 lead.

Navarro adds another as Galaxy find only consolation

St. Louis picked up where they had left off after the restart. Navarro claimed his second goal in the 53rd minute, stretching the advantage to 6–1 and putting the result beyond realistic doubt.

João Klauss headed in for the Galaxy in the 71st minute, making it 6–2. The teams finished level on goals in the second half, but CITY’s extraordinary opening 45 minutes had already decided the contest.

Ruthless finishing makes the difference

The shot totals tell an intriguing story: LA registered 18 attempts and seven on target, compared with St. Louis’s 11 attempts and six on target. Yet CITY turned all six of their efforts on target into goals, a remarkable return that underlined the difference between the sides.

The hosts also held 59.6 percent possession. This was not simply a victory built on attacking volume; it was a display of exceptional efficiency, spearheaded by Holse’s early treble and reinforced by Navarro’s brace.

For the Galaxy, two goals provided little comfort after conceding five before half-time. Their defensive response will be central to the next fixture, while CITY can take confidence from a performance that combined control of possession with ruthless finishing.
