Coventry City claimed a hard-fought 1-0 Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, with Jay Da Silva’s 55th-minute goal separating the sides.
Forest had the greater share of the ball and much of the attacking territory in front of a crowd of 30,666, but Coventry produced the more important moment after the interval. Da Silva struck in the 55th minute to give the visitors the lead, and they protected it with discipline through a tense finish.
The first half ended goalless, with Forest unable to turn their possession into a breakthrough. The hosts finished with 62.6 per cent possession, 24 shots and six corners, underlining the pressure they generated, yet only three of those efforts were on target.
Coventry were more economical, registering 10 shots and three on target from 37.4 per cent possession. Their defensive resilience was particularly important after taking the lead, as Forest pressed for an equaliser during seven minutes of added time.
Forest’s frustration showed late on, with Liam Delap booked in the 59th minute and Jair Paula cautioned in the 90th minute. Coventry, however, saw out the contest to secure a valuable away result.
The defeat leaves Forest looking to respond when they face Crystal Palace on October 11, while Coventry will take renewed confidence into their October 12 fixture against Newcastle United.
