Tottenham Hotspur were left still searching for a first Premier League win of the season after Everton ground out a deserved 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In front of 60,477 supporters in north London, Spurs controlled much of the territory and possession, finishing with 62.2 per cent of the ball and 14 attempts. Yet Everton’s compact, disciplined approach restricted the home side to only two shots on target, ensuring the fixture remained scoreless from first whistle to last.
There were no goal scorers on the afternoon, with neither side able to supply the decisive final touch in a match short on clear-cut openings. Everton carried their own threat, registering 12 shots and three efforts on target while also winning six corners to Tottenham’s five.
The visitors showed their resilience without the ball and managed the second half effectively as Spurs pressed for a breakthrough. Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was booked in the 68th minute, while James Garner followed into the book in the 84th. Tottenham also received a late yellow card in the 87th minute.
Tottenham’s 14 fouls reflected the increasing urgency around the pitch as the match wore on, but Everton stood firm to claim another valuable point. The result leaves Spurs with two points from their opening four league fixtures, while Everton remain unbeaten through four, with one win and three draws.
For Tottenham, the attention now turns to next Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa, where converting possession into goals will be the priority. Everton return home on the same day to face Ipswich Town, taking confidence from another organised defensive display.
