Angel City FC and Denver Summit FC delivered a breathless National Women’s Soccer League contest at BMO Stadium on Friday night, finishing level at 3-3 after a frantic second half in Los Angeles.
Maiara Niehues gave Angel City a timely breakthrough in the 45th minute, sending the hosts into the interval with a 1-0 advantage. But Denver emerged from the dressing room with real purpose and turned the fixture on its head in a remarkable 12-minute spell.
Yuzuki Yamamoto equalised in the 49th minute before Lindsey Heaps put Denver ahead just a minute later in the 50th. Janine Sonis then extended the visitors’ lead in the 61st minute, completing a devastating response and leaving Angel City with a major recovery job.
The home side refused to fold. Prisca Chilufya struck in the 63rd minute to immediately cut the deficit, shifting the momentum back toward Angel City. The hosts continued to press, using their territorial pressure and eight corners to force Denver into difficult defensive moments.
That pressure ultimately told in the 74th minute, when Ally Sentnor calmly converted from the penalty spot to level the match at 3-3. Denver’s Heaps and Ayo Oke had both been booked in the build-up to the decisive stretch, as Angel City’s attacking waves continued.
Angel City finished with 18 shots and six efforts on target despite having 46.9 percent possession, while Denver made their more limited opportunities count, scoring three times from four shots on target. Neither side could find a late winner, but both earned a point from an absorbing six-goal draw.
Angel City FC return to action on Wednesday, September 16, against Seattle Reign FC, while Denver Summit FC travel to face Bay FC on the same evening.
