Seattle Sounders FC and Red Bull New York could not find the decisive touch on Saturday night, playing out a competitive 0-0 draw at Lumen Field in Major League Soccer.
There were no goal scorers in the fixture, but Seattle carried much of the attacking burden. The Sounders finished with 20 shots, including six on target, compared with Red Bull New York’s nine attempts and four efforts on target. Seattle also held a narrow 51.6 percent share of possession and earned nine corners, underlining their territorial edge.
Red Bull New York nevertheless stood firm through sustained stretches of pressure and created a physical contest, committing 15 fouls to Seattle’s 11. The visitors collected three yellow cards: Ronald Donkor was booked in first-half stoppage time at 45+3, Justin Che followed at 50 minutes, and Julián Bazán went into the book at 63 minutes. Seattle’s Paul Rothrock received the home side’s lone caution in the 81st minute.
The Sounders pushed for a breakthrough late on, but Red Bull New York protected their clean sheet and ensured the points were shared. It was a legitimate, if frustrating, result for Seattle after generating 16 shot assists and keeping the visitors under pressure for much of the night.
The draw moves Seattle’s overall record to 7-6-9, while Red Bull New York sit at 7-6-10. Seattle return to Lumen Field next Saturday, September 12, against LA Galaxy. Red Bull New York are back in action sooner, travelling to face LAFC on Wednesday, September 9.
