Brentford and Sunderland shared the points in a closely contested Premier League fixture at the Gtech Community Stadium, where Enzo Le Fée’s late penalty cancelled out Vitaly Janelt’s second-half opener.

Granit Xhaka was booked in the 88th minute during a tense closing stretch, but neither side could find a decisive late goal.
The final numbers underlined the balance of the fixture: Sunderland had 14 shots to Brentford’s 12 and led 5-2 in efforts on target, while Brentford won four corners to the visitors’ three. It was a legitimate point apiece after a competitive 90 minutes plus seven minutes of stoppage time.
Brentford will look to build on the draw when they face AFC Bournemouth on September 12. Sunderland return to action against Arsenal later that day.
