The only carded moment arrived in the 58th minute, when San Jose’s Reid Roberts was shown a yellow card. Neither side lost its discipline thereafter, with Houston committing eight fouls and the Earthquakes nine in an evenly contested encounter.
The final whistle confirmed a legitimate share of the points: Houston move on from a match in which their final delivery and finishing fell short, while San Jose can take encouragement from another clean sheet and their control of possession away from home.
