New England Revolution turned in one of their sharpest attacking displays of the season on Saturday night, beating Atlanta United FC 4-1 at Gillette Stadium in Major League Soccer. Caleb Porter’s side struck twice before the interval, added two more after the restart, and effectively put the fixture to bed long before Miguel Almirón’s late consolation.
The Revolution set the tone early and were rewarded in the 11th minute when Carles Gil found the breakthrough, giving the home side a deserved 1-0 lead. From there, New England looked dangerous whenever they broke forward, showing far more incision than Atlanta despite seeing less of the ball overall.
Atlanta tried to settle into possession, finishing the night with 54.1 percent of the ball and 17 total shots, but too often their approach lacked the defensive balance needed to contain New England’s direct threat. The hosts remained compact without the ball and clinical with it, and they doubled their advantage in the 36th minute through Dor Turgeman to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
That first-half cushion reflected the flow of the match. New England generated quality chances and made them count, while Atlanta’s pressure rarely translated into the kind of finishing that could swing momentum. The visitors also struggled with discipline in key moments, committing 16 fouls on the night and picking up yellow cards for Matt Edwards in the 31st minute and Will Reilly in the 52nd minute.
Any hope of an Atlanta comeback faded quickly after the interval. In the 56th minute, Peyton Miller extended New England’s lead to 3-0, capping another purposeful move from the Revolution. Eleven minutes later, Brooklyn Raines added a fourth in the 67th minute, turning the final stretch into damage limitation for the visitors.
Even with Atlanta forcing six corners and putting six shots on target, New England were ruthless where it mattered most. The Revolution finished with 11 total shots, seven on target, and four goals, an efficiency that told the whole story. Every one of their goalscorers made a decisive contribution, and Gil’s influence from the opening whistle helped drive the performance.
Atlanta did at least find something to take away late on when Miguel Almirón pulled one back in the 85th minute, trimming the deficit to 4-1. It was a moment of quality from one of their most recognizable attacking players, but by then the result had long since been settled.
For New England, this was a complete and convincing home victory, built on attacking sharpness and a strong first-half platform. For Atlanta United FC, it was another difficult night in a challenging league campaign, with flashes in possession undone by defensive fragility and an inability to keep pace with the Revolution’s finishing.
