Brighton & Hove Albion produced a polished away performance at Turf Moor on Saturday, defeating Burnley 2-0 in this Premier League fixture thanks to a clinical brace from Mats Wieffer.

With little to separate the sides for long spells, Brighton found the breakthrough at a key moment just before the interval. Wieffer struck in the 43rd minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead, rewarding a first half in which Fabian Hurzeler’s side had just enough composure in possession and sharpness in the final third to edge in front.

Burnley remained in the contest and showed attacking intent after the restart, finishing with eight corners and five shots on target. The home side also kept the ball well enough in an even possession split, with Brighton holding only a narrow 50.4 percent share. But while Burnley had their moments, they could not find the final touch that would have changed the complexion of the match.

The Clarets’ frustration was reflected in bookings for Maxime Esteve in the 30th minute and Florentino in the 60th, while Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke went into the book in the 48th minute as the contest became more combative in the second half.

Still, Brighton looked the more efficient side. They finished with 13 shots to Burnley’s 10 and put six efforts on target, repeatedly asking questions of the home defence even without dominating territorially. As Burnley pushed for an equaliser late on, spaces began to open up.

Brighton then made certain of the points in the 89th minute when Wieffer struck again, completing his brace and sealing a 2-0 win. It was a ruthless finish to the fixture and a reminder of Brighton’s ability to punish opponents at decisive moments.

For Burnley, it was another difficult afternoon in a tough campaign, with the home side unable to turn promising spells into a goal in front of a crowd of 20,408. For Brighton, this was a mature and controlled result on the road, built on discipline, efficiency and a match-winning contribution from Wieffer.
