LAFC delivered one of the most emphatic performances of the early Major League Soccer season on Saturday night, overwhelming Orlando City SC 6-0 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
The home side were in complete control long before the interval, racing into a five-goal first-half lead and leaving Orlando with no route back into the fixture. An early own goal from David Brekalo in the 7th minute set the tone, and Denis Bouanga took over from there with a devastating first-half hat-trick, striking in the 20th, 23rd and 28th minutes. Sergi Palencia added a fifth in the 39th minute before Tyler Boyd capped the night with a header in the 70th minute.
It was the kind of relentless attacking display LAFC supporters have come to expect at their best. Even though Orlando saw more of the ball overall, LAFC were sharper, more direct, and far more clinical in the decisive areas of the pitch. Steve Cherundolo’s side finished with 17 shots, eight on target, and six goals, turning nearly every dangerous spell into punishment.
The breakthrough arrived early and in unfortunate fashion for the visitors. In the 7th minute, Brekalo turned the ball into his own net, handing LAFC a lead that immediately settled the home side and forced Orlando onto the back foot. From there, the pressure only intensified.
Bouanga’s burst between the 20th and 28th minutes effectively ended the contest before halftime. His first goal in the 20th minute doubled LAFC’s advantage, his second in the 23rd exposed Orlando’s defensive disarray, and his third in the 28th completed a rapid-fire hat-trick that brought BMO Stadium to life. The forward was booked in the 26th minute in the middle of that sequence, but it did nothing to slow his influence on the match.
LAFC were not done. Palencia got forward to make it 5-0 in the 39th minute, capping a superb first-half showing in which the hosts were clinical, aggressive, and utterly dominant in transition. By the break, the fixture was already beyond Orlando, with LAFC holding a stunning 5-0 advantage.
To Orlando’s credit, they continued to push after halftime and actually finished with 56.6 percent possession, 12 total shots, and six efforts on target. But the sheer size of the deficit, coupled with LAFC’s defensive organization, meant there was never any real momentum shift. Orlando’s frustration showed in second-half yellow cards to Duncan McGuire in the 66th minute and Iván Angulo in the 84th.
LAFC added one more goal in the 70th minute when Tyler Boyd found the net with a header, putting the finishing touch on a six-goal night. It was a deserved reward for a side that looked dangerous from multiple areas of the pitch and spread the attacking burden beyond Bouanga’s headline-grabbing haul.
There were cautions for Orlando’s Eduard Atuesta in the 21st minute, while LAFC saw Bouanga booked in the 26th and David Martínez in the 79th, but those moments were minor footnotes in a fixture defined by one-way traffic on the scoreboard.
The final whistle confirmed a 6-0 win that should send a surge of confidence through LAFC. The result moves them to 4-1-0 on the season, while Orlando City SC drop to 1-0-4 after a night to forget on the West Coast.
