Columbus Crew produced a ruthless second-half display at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday night, defeating Atlanta United FC 3-1 in this Major League Soccer fixture after a scoreless first half.

For 45 minutes, the sides largely canceled each other out. Atlanta saw more of the ball and finished with 57.5 percent possession, but Columbus looked the more dangerous side whenever they broke forward, eventually ending the night with 16 total shots and seven on target. That attacking edge told quickly after the interval.

The breakthrough arrived in the 48th minute, when Wessam Abou Ali (48′) put Columbus in front with a header to silence the home crowd. The Crew sensed vulnerability and struck again just five minutes later, with Abou Ali (53′) completing his brace and giving the visitors firm control of the match.

Atlanta briefly gave themselves a route back into the contest when Alexey Miranchuk (60′) pulled one back, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and injecting belief into the home end. Any momentum, however, disappeared almost immediately. Just a minute later, Max Arfsten (61′) restored Columbus Crew’s two-goal advantage, a decisive response that effectively settled the fixture.

That three-goal burst in the space of 13 second-half minutes defined the night. Atlanta finished with seven shots and four on target, but they struggled to match Columbus in the decisive moments around either penalty area. The Crew were sharper in transition, more clinical with their finishing, and far more threatening from open play and wide deliveries.

There was still late edge to the occasion. Columbus picked up a pair of bookings in the closing stages, with Enea Mihaj shown yellow in the 90th minute and Elías Baez cautioned in the 90+2nd. The visitors then had a player sent off in the 90+3rd minute, although by then the points were already secure. Atlanta’s frustration also showed late on, with Dylan Chambost booked in the 90+3rd minute.

In the end, this was a deserved away win built on Columbus Crew’s explosive restart after halftime. Abou Ali’s early second-half brace gave them the platform, Arfsten’s instant reply to Miranchuk’s goal killed off any comeback hopes, and the visitors left Atlanta with a statement 3-1 result.
